Mississippi withholding exemption helper
A guide to filling out Form 89-350, the Mississippi Employee's Withholding Exemption Certificate (Rev. 10/25). Answer a few questions and we'll show what to write on each line.
Your answers stay on your device. This page doesn't ask for your name, address, or Social Security number, and nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere. The only outside request is loading fonts from Google (the page still works offline with a system font fallback). You'll complete the official form yourself.
1What is your filing status?
2Does your spouse have a job?
Your spouse needs to claim the remaining amount on their own certificate. Together you can't claim more than $12,000.
2How many dependents are you claiming?
You can claim $1,500 for each person who gets chief support from you and qualifies as your dependent for federal income tax. Don't count yourself or your spouse.
Count all your dependents here, including the one who qualifies you as head of family. We'll leave that one out of line 4 for you.
If you both work, divide your dependents between your two certificates. Enter only the number you're claiming on your form.
3Age 65 or older, or blind
Each box you check adds $1,500. These exemptions apply to you and your spouse only, not to dependents.
If both of you work, claim each of these on only one of your two certificates.
4Anything else?
Your employer must agree to this. Leave it blank if you don't want extra withheld.
What to write on your form
- Fill in your name, Social Security number, and home address on the official form yourself, then sign and date it.
- Give the signed form to your employer. Don't mail it to the state.
- File a new certificate with your employer within 30 days of any change in your exemptions, such as marriage, a new dependent, or a spouse starting or leaving a job.
- If you don't file a certificate, your employer must withhold Mississippi tax on your full wages with no exemption.
This helper is a general guide based on Mississippi Form 89-350 (Rev. 10/25) and its instructions. It isn't tax advice and doesn't replace the official form.
